The Omaha South High School Packers football and soccer programs have a brand new stadium!
Collin Field located at 23rd and L Street, the practice facility for the sports teams for many years, was referred to as "The Hole" due to its below grade setting and its tough to maintain field conditions.
The Packers could not host any Home games at Collin Field. Instead they had to schedule with other area schools to use their facilities for actual interschool competition. Imagine, never truly having the feeling of a "home field advantage."
All of that is changing this Fall. On Sunday, August 23, 2009, a dedication ceremony will be held at a recently renovated $8.7 million sports complex featuring seating for 3000, artificial turf field, locker rooms, press box, concession stand, and parking.
Nearly three quarters of the cost of the facility came from private donors, many of them Omaha South High School Alumni, who for years dreamed of this day. The remaining 25% was funded by Omaha Public Schools.
Go Packers!
